Hiatus
I’m taking a month off from writing. I’ll be back on July 28.
I’m taking a month off from writing. I’ll be back on July 28.
It was scorchingly hot today, and temperatures in the house were in the 90s. Even with a fan blowing on me, it was hard to stay focused. It’s probably not a surprise that I’ve felt a bit off-kilter all day, but I won’t blame that all on the heat.
Yesterday I got a new pair of glasses. It’s been nearly 3 years since my last pair, so it was good to trade up to some that weren’t quite so worn and mangled. They look pretty much like the old pair, but feel much better.
I’m invigorated. There must be something in the air.
And I’ll take you for who you are
If you take me for everything
The phone rang a few minutes ago, and I had the strong feeling that I ought to answer it, but by the time I picked up the line was dead. I don’t know who it was, and I suppose I never will.
Yesterday I helped medyani haul 8 old bicycles from Hamilton to a drop off point for Bikes Not Bombs. The bikes were relics of an age of cycling gone by: heavy, sturdy, and beautiful even under so many layers of dust, rust, and disuse. It took willpower not to take a few home to await a rebuilding project that would never happen.
I’m practically content these days.
The body is more or less back to normal after getting hit last week. My middle finger is still a bit tender when it’s pressed in a very particular way, but it gets better every day. I got lucky.
It’s going to be a quiet week if I can help it. I’m wrangling an interesting and only slightly frustrating project at the moment, which for a change involves a tangible product. I’m hoping to get it wrapped up in the next few weeks before the summer hits in full force.
Last night’s party was appropriately groovy. There’s a picture of my full get up here. I’m glad fabrics have improved in the decades between 1967 and today.
I spent some time in the studio writing music tonight, officially kicking off work on the new CD project. Currently I am pondering questions that probably don’t have answers (recreational musing) whilst drinking a raspberry milkshake.
Last year was an 80’s party, tonight the time machine goes back 20 years more for a 60’s party. V helped me put together a costume, which will be unveiled in all its glory tonight. In the meantime, here’s a preview:

Fate finally caught up with me, and I got doored this afternoon in Davis Square. For those playing at home, it’s when someone opens a door right in front of you, while you are on a moving bike, and you crash. I had about 6″ of room on my left side, as there was a car waiting in traffic, so there wasn’t a lot of evading I could do. I braked as much as I could, braced, and fell, taking the stopped car’s right side mirror with me. From the pain in my left hand, I must have punched it off.
All things considered, I’m okay, just a little bruised and scraped. Didn’t get hit on the head. Bike is fine, and the burrito I was carrying home made it back in one piece. It was delicious.
I’m going to the opera tonight.
It’s Chava’s birthday today! This should be celebrated!
Beyond birthday wishes, I don’t have an awful lot to say; life is moving on as it always does. Overall, I’ve been in a good mood the past week. This is a welcome thing, and maybe a little surprising.
I did a little cosmetic work on the site today, tweaking the CSS a bit. I think it’s looking mighty nice.
Today featured a trip to the Tower Hill Botanic Gardens, which were diverse and beautiful and full of things to take pictures of; frogs, insects, statues, and of course plants. I posted some of my favorites up on Flickr.
I slept in until 7:30 this morning; it’s the latest I’ve woken up in months, and was a preamble to a much-needed lazy day. Ran some errands, cleaned the kitchen, and re-watched Ocean’s 12 in anticipation of Ocean’s 13, which I should see on Monday. Ocean’s 12 is a much better movie than some people give it credit for.
I did work a little on guitar soloing (as if practicing one’s instrument is work as such), and am starting to notice that I can create lines without thinking about what my fingers are doing. This is a big step, and it’s exciting! I’ve been playing for a little over a year now, and have certainly come a long way, and there’s much improvement to look forward to.
I made more cupcakes. These are pumpkin and oat, and perhaps a little out of season, but very good. I swear this isn’t turning into a food blog.
